A couple of months ago, the Chairman of Duke Ellington Society of Sweden, Göran Wallén, called a members meeting to decide on a proposal from the Board to dissolve DESS.
The meeting took place yesterday and some 25 members attended. After discussions and a counter proposal from old time members Göran Axelsson and Anders Asplund, the proposals from the Board did not get the necessary qualified majority.
It seems that there will be another vote on DESS’s future in February or March.
Anyhow, I have organized things so Ellington Galaxy can continue as before and supplement other activities of DESS even if DESS cannot afford to pay for it.
So far I have published some articles from Ellington ’86 in Newark, an Ellington concert in Stockholm in January 1967 and latest issues of Blue Light and the DESS Bulletin.
There will be more in the coming weeks.
