This CD was recorded by Jazz At Linc0ln Center Orchestra at a Lincoln Center concert in August 19191. JLCO was conducted by David Berger, who also had transcibed the music. The record was issued in 1992 and Stanley Crouch wrote the liner note.
It has a mixture of Ellington songs from different periods.
Here are two songs from the golden early 1940’s (Portrait of Bert Williams and Bojangles) and three songs from New Orleans Suite ( Portrait Of Louis Armstrong, Thanks for the Beautiful Land on the Delta and Second Line.
The five other songs on the CD are Self Portrait of the Bean, Total Jazz – Final Movemt of “Portrait of Ella Fitzgerald” and Liberian Suite.
There are later interpretations by JCLO of some of the songs on the CD and perhaps we will come back to then in another article
