Steven Bowie – Cootie Williams expert, jazz researcher and editor of the Ellington Reflections blog – has given us a nice surprise. We have all been waiting for his book on Cootie Williams but instead he surprises us with a 88 tracks 4-CD collection of Cootie Williams recordings. It will be released on the English Acr0bat label on February 2 and can be bought from Trapeze Music & Entertainment in England (www.trapezemusic.com) from February 2. The CD box can also be bought from Amazon.com (i.e. the U.S. Amazon site) from early March but can be preordered from the site already now.
The first CD covers 1928-1938, the second 1938-1941, the third 1942-1950 and 1952-1962. With this all the essential periods in Cootie Williams career are well covered.
