Laurent Mignard is a trumpeter, composer, arranger and orchestra leader with a solid education in music. As composer, Mignard is particularly inspired by Duke Ellington, Ornette Coleman, Claude Debussy, Henri Dutilleux and Tore Takemitsu. His art is to balance peacefulness and surprise, beyond the traditional tonal laws.
In 2003, Mignard founded the Duke Orchestra and with what he calls “a dream team of soloists”, he has developed it into a leading Ellington orchestra. His Ellington discography includes Battle Royal (2021), Ellington French Touch (2012), Duke Ellington Sacred Concert (2015) and Jazzy Poppins (2018), for which he has received several awards.
Last year, he Issued the first CD In his ambitious project Duke Ladies and the second is on its way. A concert with his orchestra and artists who sings and plays on the CDs will take place in Paris on 12 May.
At Ellington 2022, he will invite to the Duke Ellington Study Group Conference in Paris next year and give a first outline of the program for the event.
